Nellie Gray, a Year 7 student at Vincentia High School in NSW, is the winner of Text's 'How I Saved the World' writing competition.

Students were tasked with writing an imaginative story of up to 500 words about how they saved the world. The prize is $100 worth of books for the writer and $1000 worth of books for the winner's school.

Nellie's story, 'Final Piece of the Puzzle', tells the life story of ninety-four-year-old Dr Nellie Gray, who, as a schoolgirl, witnessed the suffering of disease-ridden people, then attended 'Medical Science University' and dramatically found a cure for the Organsamist Virus.

The bookshop from which Nellie and Vincentia High School will redeem their prize is Boobook on Owen in Jervis Bay.

The runner-up was Sean Abel, a nine-year-old student from Star of the Sea in Torquay, Queensland, for his ripping story 'How I Saved the World', about Crazy Town and the evil villain Sugarman.

Both Sean and Nellie win the first three books in the Jack Mason series by Darell Pitt.
