Dr. James Orbinski has won the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing, for his book An Imperfect Offering.

Presented by The Writers’ Trust of Canada, the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize (CAN $25,000) was established in honour of the outspoken and popular MP from Windsor who died in 1998. Now in its ninth year, the prize is awarded annually to a non-fiction book which combines new insights into a political subject of interest to Canadians with a depth of research and significant literary merit.

Orbinski was international president of Doctors Without Borders when the organisation received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. He is now a research scientist and associate professor of family and community medicine and political science at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto.
