Text Publishing acquires book by WikiLeaks founder

I hope this book will become one of the unifying documents of our generation – Julian Assange

Text Publishing has acquired ANZ rights in Julian Assange’s groundbreaking new book. The deal was negotiated through Canongate Books (on behalf of Caroline Michel at Peters, Fraser and Dunlop). Text will publish the book in April 2011. Alfred A. Knopf will publish simultaneously in North America.

Canongate has already sold rights to Feltrinelli (Italy), Kiepenheuer and Witsch (Germany), Laffont (France), Mondadori/Random House (Spain), De Geus (Holland), Objectiva (Portugal), Font (Norway), and Companhia das Letras (Brazil), all of whom will be part of an internationally coordinated launch.

WikiLeaks has helped redefine our idea of investigative journalism and our understanding of how information should be disseminated. Assange, the visionary creator of and driving force behind this ‘guerrilla publishing outfit’, has a unique perspective on how WikiLeaks has evolved into one of today’s most influential and fearless news organisations.

In this revelatory account, Assange expands on the philosophies that underpin his stateless, ground‐breaking media company. He also draws on his own fascinating life story to offer compelling insights into this mercurial and highly driven man who has forced us radically to rethink about such basic ideas as transparency, democracy and power.

I hope this book will become one of the unifying documents of our generation. In this highly personal work, I explain our global struggle to force a new relationship between the people and their governments. – Julian Assange
