The shortlists for the 2010 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards were announced at the Wheeler Centre yesterday.

Described by the judges as ‘savage, lyrical and tender,’ Truth by Peter Temple has been shortlisted for the $30,000 Vance Palmer Prize for Fiction. This represents further great recognition for the winner of the 2010 Miles Franklin.

Stupid Money, Gideon Haigh’s account of America’s role in the global financial crisis, has been shortlisted for the Alfred Deakin Prize for an Essay Advancing Public Debate. The essay, published in Griffith REVIEW 25: After the Crisis, was described by the judges as a piece in which ‘the prose is always dashing, the tone consistently lively and spiced with wit.’
